Welcome back, Rams. We have done our best to build an infrastructure to resume our school goals and meet the multiple needs of our students in a new school environment. State guidance, district plans, and survey feedback all contributed to our 100% Remote Learning Plan.
We have learned a considerable amount of what worked and what didn’t work during the spring semester of remote learning as a country, state, and school. Our district has invested a significant amount of time and money to synthesize the collective efforts of our stakeholders and develop a plan to open school this fall for our students. We know everyone did their best in the spring given the circumstances of the pandemic, yet we also know we must expect better for the 2020-21 school year. Better, starts with everyone being on the same page and understanding the parameters and expectations teaching and learning will require in our 100% Remote Learning Model. Communication, flexibility, and a focus on learning will be at the forefront of our day to day routine to assist students as they get back into the school routine. We will not turn away from the concerns that exist, the emotions that are felt, and the uncertainty of tomorrow. However, we will place the majority of our time and efforts towards our controllables: staying informed of the health data, providing equitable instruction and viable curriculum, as well as effective, consistent feedback to our students. We will continue our collective efforts toward the district’s shared vision: learning is our fundamental reason for existence. We fundamentally believe all students can learn, and, as professionals, we assume responsibility for guiding students through the learning process. Thus, virtual classroom interaction and effective, timely feedback will be critical during our 100% Remote Learning Model. Now more than ever, we must collaborate and remain flexible to foster real world connections in our classrooms. Our challenges will become our next set of accomplishments. Learning can happen anywhere and anyway.
We are all capable of leading our students and one other through these uncertain times. This year is like no other and our “All Rams on Deck” motto is a non-negotiable. We must do everything we can to:
- Maintain the health and safety of all students and staff
- Provide meaningful and engaging academic experiences for all students
- Address the social and emotional needs of all students
- Provide consistency and stability for all students and staff in multiple settings
- Provide professional development to address the technology and instructional needs unique to this time
- Engage parents/guardians in student achievement
There are no guarantees; however, there are opportunities to learn, to lead, and to listen. We need to be patient with one another, recognize that we have the ability to make the most of these times, and remember that one thing will never change: kids need us. What type of founding fathers and mothers will we be in this new world of learning? What will we do to ensure all students receive equitable education in remote learning conditions--conditions that might just define us beyond this pandemic? Who is going to tell our story?
Thank you for your support, your willingness to trust the process, and for all that you do to support Reavis. We have the best families and students.
Ready to go, Together,
Principal Schultz
