Mike Henry has been chosen to serve on the International Reading Association’s Teacher Advisory Panel. The primary responsibility of this panel is to evaluate current research (as determined by the Board of Directors) and determine if and how said research can be applied in classrooms. Mike will serve a three year term on the panel. The majority of the group’s work is accomplished through online conferences and conference calls. Plus, he will attend the IRA National Conference each year to meet with representatives of this group from all over the world.
Mike is one of only nine U.S. teachers selected to serve on the Teacher Advisory Panel. The entire panel consists of twelve teachers—there is one representative from Canada and two representatives from elsewhere in the world. He tells me that in his application, he thoroughly explained his role at Reavis High School and his approach to coaching teachers in research-based best practices. He firmly believes that it is this work that made him a strong candidate for the panel.
